In pipe-jacking and microtunnelling, pipes are pushed through the ground behind a tunnelling shield from a single launch shaft. There is no need to excavate the whole route, so surface disruption, reinstatement costs and traffic impact are dramatically reduced.
Polymer concrete is an excellent jacking pipe material because it combines very high compressive strength to handle jacking loads with a smooth, dense, non-porous surface that resists corrosion for the life of the line.
